Culture Lives On When We Carry It Forward

About Ancestor Project

Ancestor Project is a creative and cultural movement rooted in African heritage. Using art, storytelling, performance, and digital media, we engage young people and communities in conversations about identity, ancestry, and the enduring power of tradition.

Originally founded by Ghanaian artist Kwame Akoto-Bamfo, Ancestor Project was born out of a desire to reconnect modern generations with the values, symbols, and stories of Africa’s past — not just as memory, but as active inspiration for the future.

We believe African youth deserve opportunities built on more than just global ambition — they need grounding in local identity, history, and creative power. That’s why our work blends education, public engagement, and cultural expression, using both traditional and modern platforms.

Our Approach

Our mission is shaped by ongoing projects, workshops, and collaborations across art, tech, and community work:

  • Youth-Focused Training & Workshops. We create programs that support young Africans in navigating global futures while staying rooted in local heritage — with mentorship that reflects the realities of our communities.
  • Cultural Installations & Public Art. Through powerful installations like Nkyinkyim, we invite the public into reflective, immersive spaces where history and art meet.
  • Media & Digital Storytelling. From music and animation to memes and mini-documentaries, we use every medium to infuse African cultural values into everyday digital life.

Why We Exist

Africa’s intangible heritage — the oral histories, spiritual practices, symbols, and worldviews — has long been under threat. Our project is a response: not only to preserve these traditions but to activate them through modern creativity and collaboration.
We are driven by one question:
What if the future of Africa was built from within — not by forgetting, but by remembering together?
